ARTIFACT: SUBSTITUTE TEACHER PERMIT
STATE OF INDIANA 2008 RATIONALE: I learned I wanted to become a substitute when I was teaching the preschool classes in my daycare. When I mentioned to my sister that I wanted to be a teacher, her words were, “You will never know whether you want to do it for sure or not until you spend real time in a classroom. Go apply at your local school as a substitute for a year or two and you will find out!” This artifact supports standard 1 for learner development. REFLECTION: Since 2006, I have been substitute teaching and working on my education degree. Because of not being brave enough, I have only worked in grades up to fifth grade. In the future, I would like to gain the confidence to move into the higher grades even if this move is to just substitute teach and see if it is something I would like in the future.

ARTIFACT: C.D.A.
COUNCIL FOR PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION 2010 RATIONALE: I voluntarily took these classes and received my CDA to improve myself and my childcare experience. I was determined to be the first person in Jefferson County to get all four steps in the Paths to Quality program for my facility. At the time, I was the first to get started on it and the farthest. Part of this process was taking classes and getting a certificate or degree to show professional promotion. Within a year, I had achieved and received this goal. This artifact supports standard 1 for learner development. REFLECTION: In the future, I will definitely use the teachings learned through acquiring this certificate. I already have. I am at this moment taking this a bit further and working on my degree in Elementary Education and will use this to gain a life changing career.

ARTIFACT: PHYSICAL EDUCATION LESSON PLAN
EDUC 240 2013 RATIONALE: I created this lesson plan for a health and wellness activity. It is able to be performed by wheelchair students as well. It encourages movement and motor skills, strategy, concepts, and principles. This artifact supports standard two for learning differences. REFLECTION: In the future when I use this lesson plan, I will use bean bags instead of balls. This would allow them to throw it so it would stay in place instead of rolling away like a ball would. This will allow them to tally their score before they pick it up. I now know how difficult it can be for a special needs child to do some of the everyday activities a normal child can do without the help of their peers or teachers.
|
ARTIFACT: SAVANT
EDUC250 2013 REFLECTION: During making this power point, I learned a lot about people with disabilities. I did much research on Kim Peek and people like him. It helped shape and change my feelings towards exceptional people. This was a very educating experience for me, and seemed to be for my peers also. This artifact supports standard 2 for the learning differences. I understand individual differences and diverse cultures. REFLECTION: To better this power point, I believe I would enter more straight facts about people like him. This would include medical findings, statistics, educational facts, and family history. I would also ist or talk about everyday people who are similar to him.

ARTIFACT: CLASS RULES
EDUC 2010 RATIONALE: In my educational technology course, we were asked to create a power point on classroom rules. This was done from a set of rules already established so we could use it as a template. Rules in a classroom should be posted clearly and openly. They are a tool for creating a before supportive and collaborative learning environment. This artifact supports standard 3 for the learning environment. REFLECTION: When I have my own classroom, I will have a short list of rules posted clearly on the wall. This particular artifact was done to not only teach us about rules, but show us how to do a power point. I do not think it is a good idea to have rules on a power point unless it is on your classroom website for students and parents to view. Otherwise, it should be introduced at the beginning of the school year and then hung on the wall as a reminder.

ARTIFACT: CLASSROOM FLOW
EDUC101 2010 RATIONALE: In this artifact I observed a classroom at Rykers Ridge Elementary and sketched the layout of the classroom. This shows the flow of the room. Some aspects of the room I liked and some of them I didn’t. This artifact supports standard 3 for the learning environment. REFLECTION: In all of my observations, I have made sketches of the layouts of each classroom. Each teacher has his or her own preference, as do I. I learn from my mistakes and from others. I will use the best and worst of my observations to create the most experienced learning environment possible.

ARTIFACT: PRAXIS TEST
STATE OF INDIANA 2008 RATIONALE: In 2008, I was trying to get my substitute teachers license. At the time and at this school, they required everyone to take a Praxis pro test. This was a new regulation at this school district. When I interviewed and turned in my application to the superintendent, he explained the new procedure. He stated that the tech people had not finished the testing room yet, so I had to take it at his desk-an experience no one else got to have. I knew this was the beginning of my education experience. My results were mailed to me and the school. I received a 477 /480. This artifact supports standard 4 for content knowledge. RELECTION: I am glad I took my sister’s advice on this. She had told me to sub before investing time into classes. That way I would know whether this is the route I wanted to take. I would, and have suggested this to anyone wanting to get into teaching. This is also a chance to test out which grades you would be more interested in instructing.
ARTIFACT: DEANS LIST
IVY TECH COMMUNITY COLLEGE RATIONALE: This artifact shows my persistence, hard work, and perseverance. I do my best to succeed in my classes. Discipline plays a huge part in this field. I will expect the same of my students in every aspect of their lives. I plan to teach them to aim high in everything they do. If you shoot for the moon, even if you miss you will at least land upon stars! This artifact supports the artifact 4 for content knowledge. REFLECTION: I will ask every student to do his or her best and that’s all they can do. I will teach them to aim high and apply. My job is to make it meaningful and accessible so the students can master the content. I will take what I learned during my college career and in my classes and apply it in the field.
|
ARTIFACT: C.I.S. DEGREE
IVY TECH COMMUNITY COLLEGE 2011 REATIONALE: In 2011 I was awarded my AAS in Computer Information Systems. Originally I wanted to work in an IT setting. While trying to acquire this degree, I was raising 3 little ones and running a daycare I owned. During the preschool classes I taught there, I realized that teaching was what I actually wanted to do. So I set out to finish the last few classes and begin my career in education. The computer degree will look fantastic on a resume along with the BS in Elementary Education. I learned bounds of information in the earlier degree and plan on utilizing it in my new one. This artifact supports the standard 4 for content knowledge. REFLECTION: As I reflect back on this journey, I used to say it was wasted time. I now know it is actually going to act as a supplement to my other degree. It will look great on a resume and open doors for me. I often thought about using both of these to be a computer instructor. However, I’m finding out the “extra” teaching jobs, like art, computers, and PE, are the first to go when there are cuts. So I will probably just use it as a tool to assist me for now.

ARTIFACT: VOLCANO
EDUC201 2012 RATIONALE: This artifact was a lesson plan that had to be made in my teaching in technology class. We had to come up with a lesson plan and make a rubric to assess it. I made it a group project of four students, who has to do research online, put together ideas and come up with a research paper. The rubric is setup to grade the students as a team. It teaches, teamwork, collaboration, and problem solving. It also asks them to use their technology, writing, reading, ans science skills. This supports the standard 5 for application of content. REFLECTION: Thinking and looking back on this assignment, there are some things I would change. I would have to change my grading tactics. It is very hard to grade everyone for the same thing in a group. There is always a hard worker, and always a slacker in every group. I would like to find a way to grade them individually for fairness. I also noticed they were to turn in a research paper. It is almost impossible for a group to turn in one research paper, so I might make it a presentation instead.

ARTIFACT: SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
EDUC101 2010 RATIONALE: This artifact is a reflection of a school experience I had in 2010. It was a life changer for me. We were discussing in depth about students with special needs. I did not feel like they needed to be included in a classroom with other students. This observation was done in a full inclusion classroom. There was a girl there in a wheel chair and she could not make any communication with other people. To the naked eye, she looked as if she just sat there and made noise. To my surprise, she had an IPad built especially for her and she was communicating. This exceptional student was answering questions, taking tests, and doing homework. This was all being done through this IPad gadget she had. The noise she was making was joy from answering the questions correctly. You can read the rest in the actual artifact itself. REFLECTION: This observation made me look at these students in a whole different light. I do still have my feelings on students with severe disabilities that interrupt the class and upset students. However, students like her, who can participate, watch, and even react with their peers deserve a spot in the classroom. Without this device it would have been very hard, if not impossible, for her to communicate. This artifact supports the standard 5 for application of content.

ARTIFACT: INDIANA CENTER RUBERIC
EDUC255 2013 RATIONALE: This artifact is a rubric from a lesson plan. It was an assignment for elementary students to use a center that the teacher created. I created a center about the state of Indiana. This chapter was how to properly assess a student over an assignment or activity. I chose to make the rubric included in this artifact. It supports the standard 6 for assessment. REFLECTION: This artifact was one of my favorite to make. I feel like I took my time and really got creative with the assignment. I’m not really a rubric fan, but it seemed to turn out quite nicely. It has two pages to the rubric. The front is mainly for the teacher’s quick view and notes; the second is for the student.
|
ARTIFACT: GRADE KEEPER
EDUC201 2012 RATIONALE: This assignment was also used as a template to create an excel spreadsheet for my teaching in education course. However, this could easily be used to keep track of grades in my own class. What I learned in my computer degree added with the teaching in education class will get me a step ahead of some teachers. There are a lot of my peers that sadly cannot operate a computer. This artifact supports the standard 6 for assessment tools. REFLECTION: Looking back I am very glad that my path was taken the way it was. The computer degree I have will put me a step ahead. In this particular artifact, there are a couple changes I would make. If this were made to accommodate my class, it would have multiple pages to it. I would make one for every step of the student’s day so it is easy to track. I would have a page for attendance and lunch count, then one for homework, then one for assessments, and finally even a behavior chart. I like to make things a one stop shop. This way, it’s easy to find and if I need anything, all I have to do is choose a page and hit print. I can even make it to where I can click on a single student, and it will print all of that student’s information.

ARTIFACT: HISPANIC DANCE LESSON PLAN
EDUC130 2013 RATIONALE: This artifact was one of those assignments I was proud of. I really thought through it and created a lesson plan that I will probably even use in my classroom. This was a lesson plan that used many content subjects. It covered reading, dance, music, culture, and many more. In this plan, we read a book then used all the senses to really master the idea. It was a Hispanic culture book. We were dancing to Latino/Hispanic music, wearing their costumes and learning their moves. We had their type of food served and tried to speak as much of the language as possible. REFLECTION: I liked the way this lesson plan covered many subject areas. I would like to do this with all assignments if it was possible. I feel the best way to let a new idea sink in is to attack it with all 5 senses. If a student learned a subject using, sight, smell, taste, touch, and sound they would all be engaged and successful.
|
ARTIFACT: FINISH REFLECTION
EDUC130 2013 RATIONALE: This artifact was used in reflecting on another course and subject. However, I would have to use something similar to this, to reflect on all assignments given. I would be able to make lasting improvements to better the curriculum. This artifact supports the standard 7 for planning and instruction. REFLECTION: That takes me to another thought about making lesson plans and writing curriculum. It should be checked and rechecked, reflected on, peer evaluated and then tested to see if it is worthy of the classroom. I have done things in the classroom that where a flop and/or never turned out. I’ve also done some pretty impressive things. Those are the things to take note of and put in your book of good ideas to use for later!

ARTIFACT: MEASUREMENT ACTIVITY
EDUC201 2013 RATIONALE: This activity was created in my teaching and technology course and was a template on how to make charts on a computer. I really liked this idea. This could be used in an everyday classroom or in a computer lab. It utilizes many subjects such as math, measurement, computers, and problem solving. This artifact supports standard 8 for instructional strategies. REFLECTION: In this assignment, I would have to do with what I have. If we don’t have computers, I would have them use paper and crayons to make their graph. If we did have technology we could create charts using the office tools. Regardless of the situation, we would use rulers and go around the room and measure whatever they wanted as long as they had 5 to 8 things. I love plans where the students are able to get out of their seats and do assignment hands on.
|
ARTIFACT: ISSUES WITH TEHNOLOGY
EDUC201 2013 RATIONALE: This artifact was also made in the teaching with technology course. It was to show us how to make power points. However, this could easily be used for middle to high school level class to teach them the rights and wrongs of computers and internet. It may also be used in a staff meeting to show staff/faculty regulations of the school system and technology. This supports the standard 8 for instructional strategies. REFLECTION: As I mentioned before, this was a small template to show process of power points. To use this in a classroom I would arrange it to meet the standards of the grade level. It would need more information included in it also. This would be a good presentation to show at the beginning of the year in a computer technology class.

ARTIFACT: TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
EDUC 101 2010 RATIONALE: My role as a teacher is to get to know and learn each student. Students learn and grow at different rates and a teacher must adjust to accommodate the individual. I wrote this philosophy from my heart. I can hardly wait to begin my teaching career. This artifact supports standard 9 for the professional and ethical practice. REFLECTION: Looking back, I realized that over the years, my philosophy will change. This will be due to the changes in the educational protocols and diverse learning strategies of the students. My teaching career will be an ongoing learning experience; I will just have to keep my teaching philosophy in mind and continually evaluate it.

ARTIFACT: STUDENT LEADERSHIP
ACADEMY
STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION 2013 RATIONALE: This was a course given to students who were nominated and or approved application to enroll. It taught leadership skills, networking, peer evaluations and learning. We did exercises on problem solving and self-behavior management. In the end there was a formal graduation in which we were given a medal and certificate. This artifact supports standard 9 for the professional and ethical practice. REFLECTION: This course definitely introduced me to a new way of thinking. It showed me skills I needed to learn, enhance, and even share with others. I learned about other people and why they do what they do. I learned my bad habits and how to alter them. I will be using what I learned in future endeavors as a teacher.

ARTIFACT: GRANDPARENTS FLYER
EDUC201 2013 RATIONALE: This article was made in my teaching with technology course. It was used to show how to make a standard word document with pictures and clipart. However, This is a great tool to keep in contact with parents or guardians of your students. Keeping a good bond with the family of the student is important part of teaching. It requires professionalism, patience, and a nurturing heart. REFLECTION: Looking back on this project, I realized how much paper is involved. It would be more beneficial to me to be able to create a website with email abilities to send information to families. I understand that not everyone has internet capabilities in their home. This is where the paper copies would come in. For the families that do, I would have a confirmation sent from each email showing where they received it. Technology makes everything flow much more smoothly.

ARTIFACT: ROLLING CLOVERS 4-H
GROUP
CANAAN, INDIANA 2014 RATIONALE: This is probably one of my most favorite projects. I began a 4-H group in our town this year. I took what I knew were problems or complaints of other groups and reflected on them. I realized how to make them better. I found out that communication was a major factor and getting information to the families. This led me to make the website for our group. I am very proud of this website. It keeps everyone in the group on the same page even if they could not attend the meetings. It has printable worksheets and forms and a references page with names and numbers of anyone you need. REFLECTION: In reflection of this journey, I think I would try to get more people involved. The most problems groups have, are getting and keeping volunteers. I was aware of this and purposely kept others out so I knew it was done right. I now realize I have created my own little box that no one can get in with me to help. I’m the only one making decisions, and the only one able to edit and publish the website. This can still be fixed. I plan on having elections for students to take leadership in the group so it’s not all on my shoulders. http://rollingclovers.weebly.com
